Rob Yancey

  • Rob Yancey oversees the grace-filled worship, community, and missions for our Fairfax site. A Fairfax resident who is originally from North Carolina, Rob earned his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and completed his Masters of Divinity with Reformed Theological Seminary in 2014.

    Before coming to the Capital Pres Family, Rob served as a Pastor of Family Ministry in Bethesda, MD, shepherding families ranging from newly-marrieds to those with older children, as well as overseeing the Newly Married, Children’s, and Youth ministries. His ministry also includes time as the Director of Missions and Outreach for a large Presbyterian church.

    Rob and his wife, Liz, spent 8 years serving in South Africa where he was an Area Director for Campus Outreach Johannesburg. In addition to pioneering a new ministry, Rob planned conferences, led cross-cultural training teams, and built relationships with students and the local church.

    Outside of church, Rob enjoys concerts at the 9:30 Club, fly fishing, cheering on his North Carolina Tar Heels, and relaxing with a game night with Liz and their two boys, Ben and Will.

Patrick Quinn

  • After graduating from Christopher Newport University and spending two additional years there as an intern with Reformed University Fellowship, Patrick came home to Northern Virginia to pursue his MDiv at Reformed Theological Seminary in 2020, graduating in 2024. He met his wife Erin at our church they married in July of 2022! When he’s got free time, he enjoys hiking secret trails along the Potomac and playing Super Smash Bros. with friends.

  • As the Director of Worship, Tyler helps to plan and lead worship within our church. Originally from Illinois, Tyler holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music and Worship from Messiah University. When he’s not playing the piano, Tyler enjoys watching the Alabama Crimson Tide and playing board games with his friends and family.

  • With over a decade of ministry experience, Chelsea brings her enthusiastic and dedicated spirit to coordinating ministry throughout our church and managing our communications. She also helps members and guests find grace-filled community and service opportunities to help them connect to our church family. In her free time, you’ll find Chelsea perfecting her baking skills, cheering on the Nationals, and traveling any chance she can.

Melanie Hsieh

  • Melanie Hsieh serves as our Elementary Education Coordinator, kinder through 6th grade. She has a master’s degree in nursing and works part-time as a nurse at Trinity Christian School. Prior to living in Northern Virginia, Melanie served for four years as the Director of Children’s Ministries at her previous church in San Antonio, Texas, where she spent her time sharing the love of Christ with children, by God’s grace, in all sorts of fun and exciting ways. It is through covenant children that Melanie experiences God’s mercy and grace most vividly and is one of the many reasons she feels called to serve children.

    Melanie is married to David, recently retired from the Air Force, for over twenty years and they have three daughters. She loves to hike with family and spend time outdoors and also loves to play with her cat Sesame and dog, Miso. You can also find her in the kitchen experiencing culinary creativity while listening to music!

Jen McCommas

Interim Children’s Ministry Coordinator

  • Jen McCommas serves as the Children's Ministry Coordinator for nursery through preschool. She has her undergraduate degree in English from Grove City College, and a graduate degree in Teaching from the University of Virginia. Previously a middle school teacher and now a mother to four children, she has a heart for children to know the love of Jesus Christ and to live out that truth with confidence and joy. She is excited to continue building an authentic community at church and to facilitate the Upper Elementary Hangouts alongside her husband, Stuart.

    In her free time she likes to take long walks with her husband and read books with her kids. You can also find her out in the garden picking some flowers or in the kitchen baking some Pennsylvania molasses cake.

Elected Leaders

Our church is governed by elected and installed leaders who oversee and shepherd our congregation, including Elders, Deacons, and members of our Board of Women.

Elders

An elder’s primary role is to govern and shepherd our church, embodying the wisdom, character, and humility of Jesus. The group of elders is a representative body called the Session. The qualifications for elders are found in 1 Timothy 3:1–13, Titus 1:5–9, and Acts 6:1–7.

Deacons

Deacons primarily serve the physical needs of our church and community, modeling the mercy of Jesus. It is an office of sympathy and service, helping in time of need. The deacons are organized as a board, called the Diaconate. They also administer the Deacons’ Fund which supports members of our church and community with specific and temporary financial needs like rent, groceries, medical bills, counseling, and more. The qualifications for deacons are found in 1 Timothy 3:1–13, Titus 1:5–9, and Acts 6:1–7.

Board of Women

The Board of Women exists to be a collective voice of women on leadership, serving the whole church through shepherding, service, prayer, and ministry to women. Board of Women members are active on each Session and Diaconate committee. The qualifications for Board of Women members are found in Titus 2:3–5 and 1 Timothy 3:11.
